"I was looking for travel groups to go abroad and am so happy to have come across BTF.

I am from Mississippi originally, but at the time I traveled with BTF was living my best life in DC...

To have that experience in the motherland is the best because I realized we are still interconnected and we as Black people are lit with so much life, vibrancy, and everything despite the challenges we face and work hard to overcome…"

- Joy Akayla

"My experience with BTF was amazing."

"I’m from New York City, I have traveled with BTF once, and that was to Ghana in 2019.

I knew a few people who were going on the trip prior to traveling with BTF. And traveling with BTF was a fun and unique experience!

I would describe the trip as poignant and almost eerie at times, particularly when we visited the slaves’ castles at Elmina Bay.

Other parts of the trip were fun and educational..."

- Justine

"I would travel with BTF again!"

"Holding a different type of purpose. #1 I wanted to 100% connect and feel the spirit of my ancestors.

None of us should EVER be ashamed or embarrassed of our AFRICAN heritage, or SLAVERY and what it represented for our people. Even though the circumstances, unfortunate... It IS history, it is OUR history. BUT regardless of what your history books teach, we come from a rich place AND a LONG line of strong, intelligent, resilient PEOPLE... All of which is in our DNA. We are descendants of GREATNESS..."

- LaRhonda

"This was a different type of trip for me."

The beautiful people in Ghana would not let me be invisible, they acknowledge you, welcome you, and make you feel right at home. Plus the bright beautiful colors 😍😍😍

Also didn’t help that I went from 90-degree weather to winter. #btfghana #blacktravelfest #yearofreturn!"

- Gina

"Grateful for the experience and my new friends ."

"I’ve been in need of peace and understanding. I can’t help but reflect on my time in Ghana at the end of last year.

Reconnecting with my roots, a better understanding of my history, and the love and acceptance of a people I’d never met before but walked away as family left me with a sense of belonging, peace, love, and profound respect for black people.

- Brittany

"Waiting for the day I can go back..."

"I'm from New York city. This is my first Black Travel Fest travel group and we have traveled to Ghana during the year of the return which is super sacred and super special to me... Deirdre and the BTF Team have really worked really hard to make this a transformative experience for everyone.

I just like interacting with the locals, we got to go to a local pub, which was nice because we got Ghanaian beer. We also tried Ghanaian wine for the first time, and it was so good. So I'm so happy to have traveled with Black Travel Fest as my first group trip."

- Fatima

"My favorite experience thus far has been the naming ceremony."
