Sep 5: Cape Coast - A Poignant Journey

Today, we bid farewell to Accra and set off towards Cape Coast.

First stop: Assin Manso, the ancestral slave river. Here, enslaved Africans took their last bath before being shipped away from their homeland. It’s a moment to honor our ancestors and reflect on their resilience.

Next: Cape Coast Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stands as a solemn reminder of the transatlantic slave trade. Walk through its haunting dungeons and pass through the Door of No Return, feeling the weight of history and the strength of those who endured unimaginable hardships. This day will be deeply emotional and transformative.

 Last stop: Join in the lively procession, dancing to the infectious rhythms of afro beats, and feel the joy and pride that fills the air. The evening culminates in a street dance party with energetic performances from various marching bands, making it a day of pure celebration.

Here you’ll witness the splendor of the King and Queen Mother adorned in gold, regally carried through the streets.

Walking through these somber rooms, you’ll feel the weight of the past, imagining the pain and suffering endured by those who were torn from their homeland.

Next: Head to the breathtaking Kpalimé waterfall, a natural wonder known as a miracle of nature. Nestled in lush greenery, the cascading waters offer a serene and awe-inspiring sight. Feel the mist on your face and take in the tranquil beauty of this hidden gem, reflecting on the harmony of nature and culture.

Last stop: The day concludes with a captivating performance from a local drumming troupe. Let the powerful rhythms and energetic beats transport you, as you experience the vibrant musical traditions of Togo. This performance is a celebration of the spirit and resilience of the Togolese people.

Sep 11: Discover Benin

Transfer from Togo to Benin.

First stop: The intriguing Python Temple in Ouidah, a sacred site dedicated to the revered python deity, Dangbe. The temple is home to dozens of pythons, which are considered sacred and harmless. Local guides will share the significance of these creatures in their spiritual practices and how they symbolize wisdom and fertility.

Next: The Slave Route, a path that holds the heavy memories of those who were taken from their homeland. This route takes us through key historical sites, each bearing silent testimony to the lives that were uprooted and the horrors they endured.

First stop: Royal Palaces of Abomey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A testament to the grandeur and sophistication of the Dahomey Kingdom, one of the most powerful empires in West Africa. It houses a remarkable collection of artifacts that tell the stories of Dahomey's past.

Immerse yourself in the history and legend of the Amazons of Dahomey, the fierce all-female military regiment that inspired the characters in "The Woman King." 

Next: Vibrant local markets and artisan workshops. See traditional crafts and artworks that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of the region. Engage with local artisans, learn about their techniques, and perhaps take home a unique piece of Dahomey's artistic legacy.
